• I am proud to be operating at Northern health which I believe is one of the best surgical institutions in the country – with:
  • Comparable outcomes to tertiary referral centres,
  • Much better access to emergency surgery than most centres (with active consultant surgeon input for all emergencies through a system called the AGSU – acute general surgical unit). This is unlike other units that have a consultant surgeon available on-call who may not actually be on-site and where emergencies are managed by more junior staff or have to wait for a consultant surgeon to become available.
  • Well-managed elective surgery waiting-lists which means that our public patients are usually served well before their due dates.
• I am aware of some bad publicity that has surrounded the Northern hospital in the past. I believe this is far from the truth as outlined above and strongly encourage you to experience it for yourself.
